Jamie Melham Becomes First Female Jockey to Win Caulfield and Melbourne Cup Double

Jamie Melham made history by becoming the first female jockey to win both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup in the same year, riding Half Yours to victory in the 165th Melbourne Cup in Melbourne, Australia. This achievement comes a decade after Michelle Payne became the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. Melham dedicated her win to her late grandfather, who had supported her career and watched her Caulfield Cup victory shortly before his passing.

Half Yours, a five-year-old Australian-bred gelding trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, won decisively by 2 3/4 lengths on a soft track at Flemington, navigating tight gaps in the final stretch, including one past Melham’s husband, who also competed in the race. Michelle Payne, the 2015 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey, praised Melham’s accomplishment, expressing emotional support and admiration for her historic double victory.
