Irish dressage rider Milo Johnston experienced a life-altering fall while backing a young horse, resulting in severe injuries including multiple neck and back fractures and a brain bleed. Told by doctors he might never ride again, Milo faced not only physical challenges but also deep psychological struggles, including fear, vulnerability, and numbness. Despite nine months immobilized in braces and ongoing pain, he committed to intense rehabilitation and mindset coaching, which helped him rebuild confidence and reshape his approach to riding.
Milo’s journey back to riding was gradual and mentally demanding, but ultimately successful. He now rides more cautiously and thoughtfully, focusing on training plans rather than pushing through fear. Having moved to Sweden to work and compete, Milo hopes to represent Ireland internationally, embodying resilience and determination. His message is clear: recovery is possible, and setbacks don’t have to end a rider’s passion or career.
