Ingrid Klimke Retires Top Dressage Horse Franziskus FRH: A Look Back at Their Journey

Ingrid Klimke has announced the retirement of her top dressage horse Franziskus FRH, aged 16. The pair had a successful career together, winning bronze at the World Championships in 2022 and being in contention for the Olympics twice. Ingrid expressed gratitude for the many unforgettable moments they shared together and described Franziskus as an extraordinary horse.

Ingrid and Franziskus had a successful partnership that began in 2013, with highlights including winning their first CDI4* in 2017 and being part of the German Olympic dressage squad. Despite setbacks, such as an injury that ruled them out of Tokyo selection in 2021, they continued to compete at a high level. Franziskus sustained a hairline fracture in 2023 but underwent successful surgery and aimed for selection for the Paris Olympics in 2024.

The retirement of Franziskus marks the end of an era for Ingrid Klimke, who praised the horse’s charm, charisma, and talent in the dressage arena. Despite not achieving their Olympic dreams, Ingrid expressed gratitude to Franziskus, the Holkenbrink family, and the team for the unforgettable moments they shared together. The pair’s success and bond will be remembered by fans and the equestrian community.
