For the first time in India, a national-level equestrian league competition, known as the Show Jumping League, was held in Coimbatore on June 5 and 6, with its opening ceremony on July 4. The event took place in the Molapalayam area and was inaugurated by Nilgiris MP A Raja, alongside notable political figures. Six teams from different states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Goa, and West Bengal, competed with a total of 36 players participating.
The competition attracted around 6,500 spectators who enjoyed the show jumping rounds, where riders had to clear 9 to 10 hurdles without knocking them down to avoid foul points. Spectators expressed enthusiasm for hosting such events locally, noting that previously they had to travel to places like Ooty to witness equestrian competitions. The event was praised for its appeal to animal lovers and sports enthusiasts alike.
