State Senator Karen Tallian announced that 115 new Indiana state laws will take effect on July 1, covering diverse issues such as small business support, alcohol sales, child support enforcement, domestic violence, teen sexting, and drug regulation. Notably, SEA 23 establishes a small business ombudsman to help reduce regulatory burdens, while SEA 75 tightens alcohol sales by requiring ID checks for carryout purchases and allowing Sunday carryout sales for microbreweries. Other laws include requiring casinos to withhold winnings from those delinquent on child support (SEA 163), enabling GPS tracking for domestic violence offenders (HEA 1234), and mandating schools to educate students on dating violence (SEA 316).
Additional measures address teen sexting with educational programs and potential future penalties (SEA 224), require pharmacies to post warnings about ephedrine purchase limits to combat meth production (HEA 1320), and introduce provisional property tax billing to ease delays (HEA 1059). These laws reflect a broad legislative effort to enhance public safety, support families, and assist businesses across Indiana.
