Inclusive Dorset Horse Riding Business Builds Confidence in Children Through Equine Learning

HD Horsemanship, based in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, is an inclusive horse riding business dedicated to supporting children, particularly those with special educational needs (SEND) and home-educated children, who do not fit into traditional riding schools or RDA centres. Founded by Sam Anderson-Parker, the business offers flexible, child-led sessions that begin with grooming and sensory activities to build confidence and resilience before progressing to riding. Each session is conducted one-to-one or in very small groups, fostering a supportive environment where children can develop social skills and lasting friendships.

Since opening in November, HD Horsemanship has grown from four to five ponies and supported around 40 young people. A £5,000 Start Up Loan from GC Business Finance helped purchase ponies and support growth. The business plans to expand its sessions, create paid roles alongside volunteers, build school partnerships, and eventually move to a larger site. Anderson-Parker emphasizes that this is just the beginning, with the goal of helping many more children benefit from equine facilitated learning.
