Ilana Friedman, founder of 2 The Rescue Animal Sanctuary in Ramona, California, has dedicated her property to rescuing and caring for abandoned farm animals, including horses, goats, pigs, and an emu. Operating at a cost of $8,000 per month, the sanctuary provides a safe haven for animals often dumped or left in dire situations. Friedman, who left a career in high fashion to pursue this mission about ten years ago, emphasizes that every animal’s life matters and strives to give them the best possible care.
The sanctuary’s residents include longtime companions like George the Emu and Boomer the mini horse, as well as new arrivals such as Apollo the duck and Ferdinand, a 3,400-pound steer. Despite the physical challenges of running the sanctuary, Friedman remains deeply committed, supported by fundraising events like “Sip and Paints” and farm animal yoga. The sanctuary continues to seek donors and volunteers to sustain its vital work in providing loving homes for unwanted farm animals.
