Idaho Families Sue Over Federal Immigration Enforcement at Horse Racing Track

A class-action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Latino U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents who were detained during a large-scale October law enforcement raid at La Catedral racetrack in Wilder, Idaho. The complaint alleges that around 400 people attending a family-friendly event were abruptly confronted by 200 officers from multiple agencies using militarized tactics, including armored vehicles, flashbang grenades, and rubber bullets. Families, including children, were reportedly subjected to aggressive treatment such as having car windows broken, being zip-tied, and questioned extensively about their immigration status before being released.

Plaintiffs, including parents and children, describe the incident as traumatic, with one mother recounting the fear and racial slurs her toddler witnessed. The lawsuit challenges the law enforcement actions as unjust and harmful to U.S. citizens and lawful residents. Meanwhile, the FBI has denied claims that children were zip-tied or hit with rubber bullets, stating the operation targeted an illegal gambling ring. The case highlights tensions over immigration enforcement methods and their impact on families in the community.
