Three Idaho families, who are U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents, have filed a lawsuit following an aggressive immigration raid at a rural horse racing track last year. The families allege that state and federal law enforcement agencies used unconstitutional and illegal tactics during the raid, including detaining individuals based on their Latino appearance, restraining adults and some children in zip ties for hours without access to food, water, or bathrooms, and conducting searches without reasonable suspicion.
The lawsuit contends that these actions violated the rights of hundreds of people detained during the operation. The families argue that the law enforcement agencies conspired to carry out discriminatory and unlawful practices, raising serious concerns about civil rights abuses during immigration enforcement efforts in Idaho.
