Ever Alvarenga Rios, a 32-year-old Honduran immigrant seeking U.S. citizenship for eight years, is hospitalized with significant injuries after an incident in Maryland where ICE agents allegedly rammed his vehicle. The crash occurred on Thursday morning, involving a Department of Homeland Security official’s vehicle and Alvarenga Rios’ van. Both drivers sustained minor injuries initially, but Alvarenga Rios remains hospitalized with serious head, chest, back, and hand injuries. His attorneys claim ICE agents intentionally caused the crash and have repeatedly been denied access to visit or speak with him privately, raising concerns about due process violations.
Alvarenga Rios’ family and legal team have spoken out against ICE’s conduct, emphasizing his clean criminal record and lawful behavior. His wife expressed distress over his detention and injuries, while attorneys and advocates highlight the broader implications of ICE’s enforcement tactics. Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen condemned ICE’s actions on social media, citing constitutional rights violations. Alvarenga Rios is expected to be released from the hospital soon, but legal access and clarity on the full circumstances of his injuries remain unresolved.
