Recent high winds and storms in Montana have caused widespread damage, particularly in Hungry Horse near Kalispell, where a fallen tree knocked out power by hitting a power line. The community has praised the efforts of Flathead Electric Cooperative and local emergency responders, including the Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department, Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, and Martin City Fire Department, for their tireless work in restoring power and ensuring public safety. While most power has been restored, crews continue damage assessments and repairs overnight.
Additionally, the severe weather prompted the closure of Red Lodge Mountain due to extreme wind gusts, and officials have warned against visiting the Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Trail in Kootenai National Forest because of flood-related hazards such as landslides and falling trees. Road closures and ongoing damage assessments highlight the continuing impact of the storms across the region.
