Hundreds gathered outside Boise City Hall to protest recent ICE operations in Idaho, particularly following a federal raid in Wilder. Demonstrators, organized by groups like Idaho 50501, called for an end to state partnerships with ICE, criticizing the targeting of Latino communities and demanding transparency and protection for immigrant families. The rally included chants against ICE and the presidential administration, with some counter-protesters supporting ICE present, leading to tense moments. Protesters accused Idaho State Police and the National Guard of collaborating with ICE in what they described as a campaign of mass deportations.
In response, Idaho State Police emphasized their limited role under the federal 287(g) program, focusing solely on the removal of dangerous criminal illegal immigrants after serving sentences, and stated their commitment to lawful and transparent operations. The Idaho National Guard clarified it did not participate in the Wilder raid but provides administrative support to ICE to enhance law enforcement efforts. The state maintains that these actions are conducted under strict guidelines and in compliance with state and federal laws.
