Humane Colorado, in partnership with law enforcement, recently rescued over 70 horses and foals from a rural Colorado property where they suffered severe neglect, including extreme heat exposure, insufficient food, lack of veterinary care, and severely overgrown hooves. Many of the animals were painfully lame, underweight, and battling various health issues such as eye injuries, abscesses, and joint conditions. The rescued horses are now receiving care at Humane Colorado’s Harmony Equine Center in Franktown, but the scale of the rescue has stretched the organization’s resources thin.
The organization is appealing to the public for donations to support urgent medical treatment, farrier care, specialized nutrition, and foaling support for the horses. Humane Colorado emphasizes the need for community support to provide the extensive care required to restore the animals’ health and give them a better future. Updates on the horses’ progress and donation opportunities are available through Humane Colorado’s website.
