Volunteers from the Howard County nonprofit Friends of Rabbits have been tirelessly caring for over 60 rabbits rescued from an abandoned farm in Woodstock. Initially alerted by a tip about an injured rabbit, the group discovered many more rabbits in poor health, likely former pets that had been released and bred on the farm. The rescue took several days, with many rabbits suffering from malnutrition and respiratory illnesses, and all female rabbits having recently given birth, increasing the total number in their care.
Friends of Rabbits, which typically rescues 150 to 200 rabbits annually, has already taken in over 100 rabbits in the past four months and is now facing significant strain on resources. They are seeking community support through donations, fostering, and adoptions to provide adequate space and medical care. The organization emphasizes that rabbits require as much care as cats and dogs and hopes to find homes for all the rescued animals while avoiding overburdening other local shelters. More information and updates are available on their website and Facebook page.
