The USEA Volunteer Achievement Program (VAP), established in 2025, recognizes volunteers’ education, experience, and commitment at Recognized Events, offering badges for various roles including dressage Scribe. This role involves transcribing judges’ scores and comments during the dressage phase, providing volunteers a unique educational opportunity to understand dressage tests, judging criteria, and event officiating. Preparation includes studying dressage tests and common abbreviations, organizing materials at the event, and working closely with judges to accurately record feedback. Volunteers find scribing rewarding as it deepens their knowledge, improves their riding, and connects them with the eventing community.
To earn the dressage Scribe badge, volunteers must complete an online assessment and volunteer for at least 10 hours across two or more USEA recognized competitions, with approval from event coordinators. The USEA Volunteer Incentive Program supports and celebrates volunteers through recognition, awards, and a leaderboard, facilitated by the EventingVolunteers.com portal and app. This program highlights the vital role volunteers play in sustaining the sport of eventing and encourages ongoing involvement and education through hands-on roles like dressage scribing.
