In the small town of Zone near Lake Iseo, an innovative educational project integrates horseback riding into the school curriculum for children aged 0 to 11. Spearheaded by Mayor Marco Zatti, the initiative aims to create a unified school center by 2026 that combines traditional learning with nature-based activities. Primary school students participate in riding lessons at the Tress Valley riding school, where they learn not only to ride but also to care for and respect horses, fostering responsibility and emotional growth. Alongside equestrian activities, the curriculum includes English lessons with native speakers and the establishment of an internal library, blending hands-on experiences with modern educational tools.
This approach addresses challenges faced by small towns, such as declining birth rates and maintaining school services, by promoting collaboration among institutions, families, and teachers. The project exemplifies how creativity can enrich education, making horseback riding a meaningful part of developing well-rounded, sensitive, and engaged future citizens.
