In December 2024, experienced horseback rider Eleanor Bravo and her friend were thrown from their Icelandic horses in Bravo’s New Mexico pasture after the animals were startled by unfamiliar surroundings. Both riders suffered concussions and brain bleeds, requiring emergency care at The University of New Mexico Hospital. Thanks to prompt medical attention, thorough monitoring, and follow-up care including brain scans and neurologist visits, both made a full recovery. Following her recovery, Bravo gradually returned to riding with increased safety measures, including a new advanced helmet and an inflatable safety vest.
