Horse Riders Volunteer to Monitor Dangerous Driving in East Riding Countryside

The East Riding police have enlisted a team of 10 trained volunteer horse riders to help monitor vast rural areas that are difficult to patrol by car or on foot. These volunteers use their regular riding routes to act as the police’s eyes and ears, reporting any suspicious or dangerous activity they observe while out on the countryside.

Riders like Ms. Hyam and Geraldine Birks have witnessed dangerous driving near horses, including cars speeding past and even brushing against riders. They see their role as a vital link between the public and police, providing a way for people to report concerns indirectly and helping improve safety on rural roads.
