Horse Rescued from Sheyenne River Near Minnesota-North Dakota Border

A horse became stuck in the Sheyenne River near the Minnesota-North Dakota border on Sunday evening, trapped in thigh-high mud and chest-deep water with steep riverbanks preventing its escape. Cass County Sheriff’s deputies, the horse’s owner, local residents including Mitch Goodmanson, and emergency responders collaborated in the rescue effort. Goodmanson helped keep the horse’s head above water using a tow strap as the animal showed signs of fatigue.

After moving about 75 yards downstream to a gentler riverbank slope, the horse was successfully freed around 8:30 p.m. and was soon able to stand and walk on its own. The rescue involved multiple agencies including the Argusville Fire Department, Valley Water Rescue, Casselton Veterinary Service, and Pride and Joy Rescue.
