Horse Racing Ireland Announces €4.2m Prize Money Increase and Major Investments in 2026 Budget

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) has announced a €4.2 million increase in prize money, raising the total to €74.7 million for 2026. The budget includes 390 race meetings and focuses on a sustainable race program with competitive prize distribution. Key investments will target equine welfare, integrity, education, training, breeding, and sales. Additionally, the development of the Tipperary All Weather Track will begin in early 2026, with racing expected to start by late 2027, marking a significant future investment in the industry.

The 2026 budget also provides grant aid for racecourse capital developments, with HRI expected to fund €20-24 million over five years, supporting total investments of €50-60 million. The Irish Incentive Scheme will increase funding to €1.5 million in vouchers to stimulate the Irish thoroughbred market. HRI Chief Executive Suzanne Eade emphasized that despite a static overall allocation, efficiencies have allowed for increased current expenditure and strategic investments, aiming to attract inward investment, broaden ownership, and enhance welfare and training, ensuring the industry’s long-term growth and success.
