A horse named Mitchell was rescued after slipping into the fast-flowing River Stour in Worcestershire on February 22. Firefighters from three local stations responded to the incident and, following advice from a vet, sedated Mitchell so he could be safely lifted out of the water using a telehandler operated by a nearby farmer.
After being rescued, Mitchell was covered with rugs to keep warm and was able to walk back to his stable about 30 minutes later. The fire station praised the teamwork involved in the challenging rescue, which ended successfully without injury to the horse.
