Horse Creek Academy Welcomes First Full-Time School Resource Officer to Enhance Campus Safety

Horse Creek Academy has appointed its first full-time school resource officer (SRO), Officer Kris Howard from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, to enhance safety and foster positive relationships on campus. Howard brings 13 years of law enforcement experience, including previous SRO roles and SWAT team membership, and has quickly adapted to the school’s positive atmosphere. The head of school, Dr. Ann Marie Taylor, emphasized that having a dedicated SRO aligns with the school’s mission to support students holistically.

Beyond ensuring campus safety and handling incidents, Howard aims to mentor students and build meaningful connections, helping them make responsible choices and brighten their days. The school currently has Howard as its sole SRO but remains open to adding more officers if recommended by the sheriff’s office. Both staff and students have warmly welcomed Howard, reflecting a shared commitment to a safe and supportive educational environment.
