Hoofprints in the Sand Horse Rescue is hosting an Easter Tea Party fundraiser to continue its work of taking in abandoned or neglected horses. The event will feature visits with the Easter bunny, horse rides, face painting, crafts, and more. The organization is struggling financially, with a recent fine adding to their challenges, but they remain committed to helping horses in need.
The rescue, founded in 2003, has helped nearly 200 horses find homes over the years. Despite operating at full capacity most of the time, they continue to receive multiple calls per week from people seeking help for their horses. The organization provides shelter, medical care, and training for the animals, but can only accommodate a limited number due to legal restrictions.
While not every horse can be adopted, the rescue ensures that all animals receive the care and love they deserve, even if they pass away shortly after arrival. The organization’s founder, Jacquie Lukens, started the rescue after saving a neglected pony named Sweet Pea, whose recovery inspired the work that continues today.
