Hong Kong’s Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law Shuk-pui, expressed optimism about a year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals during the Lunar New Year “golden week” holiday from February 15 to 23, attributing this to a longer holiday period and a larger gap since Christmas, which encourages more travel. She is confident that visitor numbers will surpass 50 million by the end of the year.
To enhance the festive experience, Hong Kong plans bigger celebrations including an expanded fireworks display supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Additionally, popular tourist spots like the former Yau Ma Tei police station, known for its classic Hong Kong crime film exhibition, will extend their opening hours to accommodate the influx of mainland visitors during the holiday period.
