Hong Kong Promotes Horse Racing to Boost Sports Tourism and Attract International Visitors

Hong Kong is aiming to boost its tourism industry by promoting horse racing as a key attraction, according to Chief Executive Jon Lee. Speaking at the Sha Tin Racecourse season opener, Lee highlighted horse racing’s deep cultural roots and its potential to draw international visitors through integrated travel itineraries and high-quality tour packages. These packages would offer immersive experiences, including exclusive access to racecourse areas and cultural excursions around Sha Tin, blending sports, history, and local culture to appeal to a broad range of tourists.

The government, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, plans to leverage major events like the prestigious Hong Kong International Races to enhance the city’s profile in the global sports tourism market. By developing themed events and entertainment alongside race days, Hong Kong aims to attract diverse international audiences, stimulate economic growth, and position itself as a premier destination for sports tourism, with potential expansion into other sports sectors in the future.
