The Hong Kong Pony Club (HKPC), established in the early 1970s, emphasizes horsemanship and equine welfare over competition, fostering a community centered on genuine connections between riders and horses. Unlike the high-energy racecourses Hong Kong is known for, the club focuses on stewardship, responsibility, friendship, and respect for the animals, nurturing these values across generations.
With around 200 members aged six to 25, HKPC prioritizes building hands-on relationships and a sincere appreciation for horses. According to Jolene Otremba, the club’s district commissioner, the core mission remains about understanding and promoting horse welfare, reflecting a deep commitment to both the animals and the riders’ development.
