At the 15th National Games held in Shenzhen in November 2025, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) played a pivotal role in supporting the equestrian competitions by establishing the event’s first-ever on-site equine hospital. This fully equipped facility, staffed by experienced Hong Kong veterinary surgeons, provided comprehensive clinical care including surgery, reflecting Hong Kong’s significant contribution to the Games and the development of equestrian sports in China. The HKJC also offered extensive operational support, including expertise in venue design, horse welfare, anti-doping, and stable management, while overcoming cross-border regulatory challenges through innovative mechanisms to enable Hong Kong vets to work on the mainland.
Beyond the Games, the HKJC has a long history of supporting equestrian development in China, contributing to major events like the 2008 Beijing Olympics and multiple Asian Games through funding, technical support, and infrastructure development, including the creation of the Conghua Racecourse and an equine disease-free zone. Looking ahead, the club plans to launch regular race meetings at Conghua starting in late 2026, aligning with China’s upcoming national equine industry plan. This initiative aims to position the Greater Bay Area as a premier hub for world-class equestrian sports, leveraging Hong Kong’s international expertise and connectivity alongside mainland resources to foster growth in China’s equine industry.
