Hong Kong Jockey Club Advances National Games Equestrian Development with On-Site Veterinary Hospital and Future Racing Plans

At the 15th National Games held in Shenzhen, Hong Kong played a pivotal role in supporting the equestrian competitions by providing a team of experienced veterinary surgeons from the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). For the first time in the event’s history, an on-site equine hospital was established, equipped with surgical facilities and a blood testing lab, ensuring comprehensive care for horses. This initiative, a collaboration between the HKJC and the games’ organizing committee, showcased Hong Kong’s expertise in equestrian sports and its commitment to animal welfare, while overcoming cross-border regulatory challenges through innovative mechanisms allowing Hong Kong vets to operate on the mainland.

Beyond the games, the HKJC has a long-standing history of contributing to China’s equestrian development, including significant investments and technical support for major events like the Beijing 2008 Olympics and multiple Asian Games. The club has also helped establish the mainland’s first internationally recognized equine disease-free zone and is expanding its presence with new infrastructure such as an equine transfer center. Looking ahead, the Conghua Racecourse, developed with HKJC’s support, will host its inaugural regular race meeting in October 2026, aligning with China’s national equine industry plan and further positioning the Greater Bay Area as a global hub for world-class equestrian sports and tourism.
