A historic horse racing competition was held on January 23, 2026, at Chaurashi village field in Rajoir upazila, Madaripur, aiming to preserve the fading traditional sport of rural Bengal. Organized by local villagers, the event attracted thousands of spectators and featured 46 horses of various breeds and colors from Madaripur and neighboring districts. Riders like Sabbir Hossain and Nabil Hossain participated out of passion, highlighting the cultural significance of the sport.
The competition ran from noon to 4 pm in multiple stages, with prizes awarded in small and big horse categories, as well as a special award for the horse Ranjit Bachcha. Spectators expressed joy at witnessing the rare event, emphasizing the importance of continuing such races to revive and maintain Bengal’s rural heritage.
