The High Court in Nairobi dismissed a last-minute legal attempt to bar Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Vice President Mwaura Kabata from participating in the LSK presidential election. Justice Lawrence Mugambi’s ruling cleared the way for Kabata to compete alongside senior lawyer Charles Kanjama, who aims to succeed Faith Odhiambo after serving as Nairobi LSK branch president, and lawyer Peter Wanyama, who hopes to challenge both in a potential second-round runoff.
This decision sets the stage for a competitive three-way race for the LSK presidency, with Kabata seeking to follow in his superior’s footsteps, Kanjama leveraging his branch leadership experience, and Wanyama positioning himself as a challenger to both front-runners. The election outcome will determine the new leadership of the influential legal society.
