New Jersey police successfully apprehended an alleged hit-and-run driver thanks to a witness on horseback. On May 31, 2025, officers responded to a report of a crash on Middleton Street, where a parked car had been damaged by a speeding vehicle. The witness, who heard the crash, provided crucial information about the incident.
The witness, identified as PJ, rode his horse named “Shiny” to follow the fleeing vehicle. He managed to get close enough to record a partial license plate number, which he relayed to the police. This information led to the identification and arrest of 22-year-old Italo Lalvay Guaillasaca, who faced multiple charges, including careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police expressed gratitude to all witnesses for their vigilance and particularly acknowledged PJ and Shiny for their role in solving the case. PJ was in Riverside to show his horse to friends when he witnessed the incident.
