Trot and Talk, a Hyderabad-based initiative founded by Nimrah Mirza, combines equestrian activities with psychological therapy to support children and adults with disabilities or mental health challenges. Nimrah, an experienced horse rider and certified psychologist, uses Equine Assisted Therapy—a method where horses and trained therapists work together to promote emotional healing and self-awareness. The therapy involves interacting with horses through activities like petting, feeding, and riding, which helps clients become more present, calm, and emotionally grounded. Nimrah’s approach particularly benefits neurodivergent children and individuals facing anxiety or stress, often leading to increased confidence and reduced symptoms such as repetitive behaviors.
Nimrah’s passion for horses and psychology inspired her to create a unique healing environment that contrasts with traditional clinical settings. She emphasizes the special bond of trust between humans and horses, noting that the horses’ sensitivity to human emotions makes them ideal therapeutic partners. Through workshops and personalized sessions, Trot and Talk not only provides mental health support but also offers retired racehorses a meaningful purpose. Nimrah believes this natural, rhythm-based therapy is significantly more effective than conventional methods, fostering emotional growth and well-being in a nurturing, open-air setting.
