The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Junior Mounted Posse (HCSO JMP) honored Lauren Dahse, Weimar Police Department Administrator and longtime rodeo volunteer, with a cowboy hat and wooden baton signed by city leaders during Weimar’s Go Texan Day on February 14. Each year, the HCSO JMP participates in relay rides delivering invitations to the Houston Livestock Show and rodeo, collecting signatures from local officials along the way. They present one baton and hat from the previous year to a person who has significantly supported their efforts, recognizing Dahse for her dedication to community involvement and promoting the rodeo.
The HCSO JMP, a youth horse-mounted precision drill team established in 1952, engages riders aged 6-20 in horsemanship and citizenship through parades, rodeos, and relay rides. Their relay rides, inspired by the Pony Express, cover routes from Houston to Austin in a single day, fostering tradition and community spirit. Dahse expressed gratitude for the honor, highlighting the riders’ skill and commitment despite challenging weather, and emphasized her family’s strong support for the Houston Livestock Show and rodeo. The award presentation also acknowledged Dahse’s role in expanding community participation with local bands, cheerleaders, and FFA groups.
