“Hank the Horse” has become a beloved symbol of hope and generosity in Kentucky and surrounding states as part of the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign. Rescued from neglect 14 years ago, Hank now travels thousands of miles with his caretaker, Tammi Jo Regan, raising funds to support families facing financial hardship, especially amid recent government shutdowns and SNAP delays. This season, Hank has already raised over $2,500, aiming for $10,000, with a long-term goal of $80,000 by his 18th year of service.
Regan’s mission began as a promise to her late father and has grown into a powerful charitable effort, helping feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and provide Christmas gifts to children in need. Salvation Army officials emphasize the critical need this year, with over 150 people and 30 children currently in their shelter. Donations to Hank’s kettle directly aid families in emergency situations, and supporters can contribute online, with top donors earning a special visit to Hank’s farm and exclusive merchandise.
