Connie and Dick Baker of Lusk, Wyoming, have successfully integrated the Frenchman’s Guy bloodline into their breeding program through their standout stallion, Guys Piece Of The Pie, known as Nugget. Acquired as a colt in 2007, Nugget impressed the Bakers with his calm temperament, striking appearance, and athletic ability. Sired by Hall of Fame inductee Frenchmans Guy, Nugget had a notable barrel racing career, earning over $35,000 and titles such as the Indian National Finals rodeo championship. Now retired, Nugget’s offspring are making their own marks in barrel racing and roping, collectively earning over $140,000.
The Bakers breed Nugget to about 15 mares annually, primarily through hand breeding at their ranch to ensure quality control, with some semen shipped out for wider access. Nugget’s foals are praised for their intelligence, willingness, and taller stature compared to him. At 18 years old, Nugget remains energetic and active in breeding, with the Bakers focusing on developing the next generation by retaining fillies and exploring new bloodlines. Their dedication highlights the lasting impact of Nugget’s genetics on the Western horse industry and rodeo competition.
