Guangzhou to Host First International Horse Racing Event in 27 Years at Conghua Racecourse

After a 27-year hiatus, Guangzhou in Guangdong province will host international-level thoroughbred horse racing events starting in late October at the Conghua Racecourse. Organized by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and adhering to Hong Kong standards, the event marks the first such race on the Chinese mainland. Positioned as a demonstration race without gambling, it aims to deepen Guangzhou-Hong Kong cooperation in the equine sector and integrate horse racing with cultural tourism and related industries in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Conghua Racecourse, inaugurated in 2018 and recently expanded to accommodate 9,500 spectators, has become a key driver for local economic growth and tourism. Authorities plan to develop Conghua into a deep cooperation zone for the horse industry, launching horse-themed cultural events, tourism routes, and industrial forums. Experts highlight the potential for Conghua to evolve into a major horse breeding, trading, and import-export hub in South China, extending the equine industry’s value chain and boosting related sectors.
