The Greater Manchester Police (GMP) mounted unit is actively seeking new horses to join their team, either through purchase or loan, following the retirement of award-winning police horse PH Hexam. They are looking for horses aged six to 12 (or slightly younger), over 16.2hh, preferably geldings of draught or part-bred draught breeds, with suitable temperament and experience, located within 100 miles of GMP. Additionally, the unit requires horses for officer training, which can be mares or geldings aged six to 13, over 16hh, sound, fit, and suitable for novice riders.
Sergeant Kerry Dawson highlighted the significant impact police horses have, noting that a horse and rider can perform the work of multiple officers and foster positive community interactions. The GMP encourages anyone with suitable horses to contact them, emphasizing that contributions will support officers and help maintain the strength of the mounted unit.
