Great-grandmother Elizabeth Breton, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, has been riding horses since she was two years old. She took a 30-year break from riding after experiencing tragedies with her horses, but returned to the sport in her 70s when her son invited her to ride his horse.
Ms. Breton, who grew up in a rural area with a stable yard, has a deep connection with horses and feels at home on a horse. She used to ride daily and competently at the age of six, and even won a cross-country championship class at the age of 78. Despite not riding competitively anymore, she continues to ride twice a week in Stanton.
She plans to keep riding as long as she can, as it is in her DNA. Ms. Breton enjoys the physical and emotional connection she feels with horses, and believes that riding twice a week keeps her in good shape. She has no plans to stop riding anytime soon, as she feels at home on a horse and enjoys the sense of community it brings.
