Grand Valley Horse Rescue, a volunteer-run charity that cares for surrendered horses and offers affordable rider training and hippotherapy, faced potential closure due to a $2,600 funding shortfall earlier in October. However, a surge of community donations totaling about $6,000 has allowed the rescue to remain operational through the end of November. Despite this relief, the organization remains financially vulnerable and aims to secure enough funds to last through the end of the year.
In response to past fundraising challenges, Grand Valley Horse Rescue is shifting from a sponsor-centric model to a partnership with Food from the Heartland, which supports nonprofits through product sales rather than ads, hoping for a more sustainable income stream. The rescue is also hosting a free open house on November 8 to engage the community, showcase their work, and thank supporters who have helped keep the barn doors open.
