Grand Lake Skijoring Returns Feb. 27-March 1 with Expanded Three-Day Western Winter Festival

Skijoring, a thrilling winter sport that blends ranching, horseback riding, skiing, and snowboarding, returns to Grand Lake from February 27 to March 1, 2026. This event transforms Main Street into a snowy slalom course with jumps and banks, where skiers and snowboarders are pulled by galloping horses. Building on the success of its inaugural event in 2025, which drew over 10,000 spectators, the festival has expanded to three days and is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors. The event is a vibrant mix of Western tradition and winter sport, featuring competitors of all ages and skill levels, alongside vendors and lively crowds.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the weekend includes live music performances from local and national bands such as On 40 and the Johnny Mullenax Band, with broadcasts by community radio station KFFR. The event is free to attend and supported by local businesses and the town, which has invested heavily in snowmaking to ensure a quality course. Organizers and locals alike celebrate skijoring as a unique and exciting winter tradition that energizes Grand Lake during the colder months, blending the town’s historic Western charm with high-energy sporting action.
