Gran Oriente Triumphs in Gran Premio Club Hípico Falabella, Secures Spot in Breeders’ Cup Mile

Gran Oriente, a 3-year-old horse, clinched victory in the Gran Premio Club Hípico Falabella (G1) at Club Hípico de Santiago, finishing the 1 1/4-mile race in 1:57.71. This win secured him an automatic entry into the Breeders’ Cup Mile on November 1 at Del Mar, with all associated fees covered. Trained by Jose Alvarez and ridden by Joaquin Herrera, Gran Oriente achieved his third win in ten starts, overcoming a previous 10th-place finish in May.

Starting from post 13 at odds of 17-1, Gran Oriente navigated through the field, initially settling in seventh place. As the race progressed, he moved closer to the front, ultimately overtaking the leader, Cassis Violetta, in the final stretch. He held off strong challenges from Dia de Otono and favored Medjool, who finished third, to secure his victory.

This race marked Gran Oriente’s first turf start since last August and his first win since June. The Breeders’ Cup will also provide a travel allowance for international competitors, enhancing the stakes for the upcoming World Championships.
