Grade 1 Winner Hope Road Retired from Racing with Over $1 Million in Earnings

Hope Road, a Grade 1-winning mare bred and owned by Barbara and Ron Perry’s Cicero Farms, has been officially retired from racing, as confirmed by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. The 5-year-old daughter of Quality Road last raced on November 30, 2023, winning the Bayakoa Stakes (G3) at Del Mar by 6 1/2 lengths. After posting workouts in January, the decision to retire her was made after discussions between the Perrys and Baffert, with breeding plans possibly not commencing until 2027.

During her career, Hope Road compiled a record of 6 wins, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds from 14 starts, earning over $1 million. Highlights include a four-race win streak as a 3-year-old featuring the Torrey Pines Stakes (G3) and Bayakoa, a victory in the Ballerina Stakes (G1) at Saratoga where she defeated Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Scylla, and a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). Her retirement marks the end of a successful racing chapter for this homebred mare.
