Government urged to rethink gambling policies to protect future of British horse racing

A cross-party parliamentary group, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Racing and Bloodstock, has warned that the future of British horse racing is at risk due to recent government gambling policies. Their report highlights that tax changes, stringent affordability checks aimed at curbing problem gambling, and a lack of reform in the sport’s primary funding system could inflict lasting harm on horse racing, one of the UK’s most popular sports.

The APPG, which consists of MPs and peers but is not an official parliamentary select committee, is funded entirely by the racing industry, with the British Horseracing Authority acting as its secretariat. The group urges the government to urgently reconsider these policies to protect the sustainability and growth of British horse racing.
