Minister Ridhiwani Kikwete emphasized the Tanzanian government’s commitment to fostering a public service grounded in integrity, accountability, and quality service delivery. Speaking at a training session for Water Authorities on the Public Service Act and the new electronic system for appeals and complaints, he highlighted ongoing efforts to support the Public Service Commission in enforcing ethics and accountability. The Commission has identified significant violations of public service laws in some Water Authorities, with 38% of appeals involving such breaches, leading to cases being returned for proper disciplinary action or reinstatement of wrongfully dismissed employees.
Kikwete urged all disciplinary and appointing authorities nationwide to strictly adhere to laws and procedures to prevent unnecessary government losses and delays in justice for public servants. He praised the introduction of the Public Service Commission Management Information System (PSCMIS), which streamlines the submission of reports and handling of appeals electronically. The Commission Chairperson, retired Judge Hamisa Kalombola, acknowledged that legal violations have caused delays in resolving appeals but expressed gratitude for government support that has enhanced the Commission’s capacity to improve public service management and delivery.
