Favourite Golden Friendship secured his maiden victory at his 11th start by coming from third at gate 10 to lead in the final 100 meters, benefiting from a return to a familiar course and distance. Sky Song finished strongly in second after a gear change, while Ever Smart and Island Breezes both showed improved performances, finishing third and just missing a placing respectively. Other notable efforts included Happy Boys and General Smart, who made late gains despite earlier setbacks, with General Smart returning well from a tendon injury.

The race saw several incidents, including General Smart jumping awkwardly and making contact with Happy Tango, causing the latter to lose momentum. Island Breezes was crowded early on, and Santorini was found to be a bleeder after the race. Cheer for South and Happy Horse were both bumped at the start but showed no significant issues post-race. Happy Tango failed to maintain a forward position as instructed, while Ever Smart was steadied after early bumping. Golden Friendship and Sky Song were both sent for post-race sampling.
