State park rangers at Goblin Valley State Park in Utah have been responding to search-and-rescue calls nearly daily over the past week, leading officials to issue safety warnings to visitors. They emphasized the importance of checking weather conditions before exploring, especially when venturing into slot canyons like Little Wildhorse Canyon, which, despite being family-friendly, can become dangerous or even deadly during rain.
Officials urged visitors to come prepared with essentials such as maps, water, extra clothing, and first aid kits, and to fully understand the routes before attempting hikes like the loop with Bell Canyon. Recent rescues included a technical operation in Goblin’s Lair, requiring assistance from Emery County Search and Rescue and the sheriff’s office, highlighting the potential hazards of these natural areas even under clear skies.
