Alan, a gentle 17-year-old grey moorland companion pony at The Mare and Foal Sanctuary, has been waiting over 450 days for a new home despite being a sweet, curious, and quietly confident pony who has become a favorite among staff. Known for his love of peanut butter and calm demeanor, Alan thrives on companionship and enjoys long walks, making him ideal as a non-ridden companion pony. His dedicated handler emphasizes that Alan has been well-trained, is good with vets and farriers, and has a loving nature, yet he continues to be overlooked for adoption.
The Sanctuary is actively seeking a loving home for Alan through its Sanctuary at Home scheme, which offers long-term loan placements with ongoing support from their welfare team. Staff highlight the rewarding nature of non-ridden ponies like Alan, who can bring joy and purpose to their carers while benefiting from one-to-one care. With over 550 horses and ponies under their care, the Sanctuary hopes Alan’s adoption will free up space to rescue more equines in need, giving him the happy future he deserves.
