The Genesee County Animal Shelter is organizing an emergency adoption event to free up kennel space after rescuing 64 animals from a hoarding and animal cruelty situation in Flint Township. The shelter, located in Flint, will offer adoptions at a reduced fee of $10 (plus $10 for licensing) to Genesee County residents on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event aims to make room for the newly rescued animals, which include 61 dogs and three cats, while the shelter is currently full.
Authorities discovered an additional 25 dogs and one cat deceased near the residence, highlighting the severity of the situation. The animals rescued from Flint Township will not be available for adoption during this weekend’s event, and officials have not yet announced when they will be adoptable. Meanwhile, the shelter hopes to clear space by adopting out pets already in their care.
