Chuck Pablo, originally a wrangler at the Koli Equestrian Center when it opened in 2002, has transformed the facility into a family-run business after taking over from the previous owner due to a disagreement with the Gila River Indian Community. With support from the tribe and the former owner, Pablo has successfully operated the center for 23 years, offering a variety of horse-related experiences, including trail rides and wagon rides, while also hosting events like birthday parties and corporate gatherings.
The Koli Equestrian Center caters to both beginners and experienced riders, providing a welcoming environment for those new to horseback riding. Pablo emphasizes the importance of responsive horses, especially for novice riders, and ensures that young children are safely guided during their rides. The center maintains a herd of 56 horses during the winter and adapts to seasonal demand by relocating some horses during the summer.
Pablo’s commitment to creating enjoyable experiences reflects the center’s mission to connect visitors with their Wild West roots. Despite lacking a major rodeo arena, the center hosts mini rodeos for corporate events and focuses on fostering a love for horseback riding among its guests, making it a hidden gem just outside of downtown Chandler.
