From Stakes Winner to Beloved Companion: The Second Act of Mountain Music Man, Now Figaro

Mountain Music Man, a former stakes-winning thoroughbred racehorse trained by Todd Pletcher, has transitioned from a successful racing career to a fulfilling retirement as a pleasure horse named Figaro. Adopted in 2019 by Kasia Szymczak-Stark and Roberto Rizo through New Vocations, a nonprofit dedicated to retraining and rehoming retired racehorses, Figaro has found a new purpose on their Illinois property. While initially intended for hunter-jumper activities, Figaro has thrived in dressage, showcasing his versatility and gentle disposition, which endears him to his owners and their family.

The couple values Figaro’s well-rounded training and calm temperament, crediting New Vocations for his smooth transition from track to home. Figaro’s athleticism and willingness to try new disciplines highlight the qualities that make off-track thoroughbreds popular for various equestrian pursuits. Beyond his physical abilities, Figaro’s gentle nature, especially around children, has made him an irreplaceable companion, embodying the success of aftercare programs that give retired racehorses a second chance at a meaningful life.
